Several volunteers have worked hundreds of hours on this project, and have poured our hearts into it for months. Our goal is simple; to celebrate the resurrection of Christ and the story of The New Testament. We expect many, many people will participate, and we understand that some might see this as an opportunity to promote their own agendas. There are many worthy causes in the world today, and many people who are passionate about their causes, and we encourage those people to pursue their goals at events other than ours. We hope to worship as the sun rises Easter morning, and then celebrate The New Testament, and after months of dedicated planning, to see someone spoil the day for their own purposes would be, in a word, heartbreaking.
Right on the main news page Thursday, was a link to a nearly three-minute piece featuring little ol' Whiteville, North Carolina! Here's a direct link. Word is, the story has aired on their 400+ station nationwide network. (If we have been bumped off the Featured Story slot, click on "View all 'You Heard ..." link.)
We printed out 1,332 pages for every sidewalk square that will be written on this Sunday during Walk With Jesus. Some pages only have 50 words, or even less, while some have several hundred. We figure many people will end up writing on more than one square, while on some of the large squares, two or more people may share the fun! This is your new blog post. Hey, everyone, it's time to kick in the real social media blitz! Thing is, we're so busy organizing WWJ, that we don't really have time to promote it. So would you please go on Facebook, or other social site, and "like" us, or make a post about Walk With Jesus? To include a "photo" feel free to use any of the three "Facebook Flyers" we have here (the green one at left, the yellow one at right, and the blue one below.) Just right-click on one and save it on your computer for easy upload. Also, feel free to send all your friends emails about this exciting day! Thanks, Carol, Janice, Mark & Stephanie Photo by Sid Miller Children have enjoyed making flowers to place in a 15-foot-tall cross during the sunrise service. It’s simple, in three easy steps: 1. Cut craft tissue paper into 6” x 6” squares. 2. Take 3-4 squares in a hand, place pencil in middle, squeeze paper around it and remove. 3. Twist the stem tight. No advance contact is needed. Children will be invited during the service to place their flowers in the cross. We're finalizing plans and praying for sunshine Sunday morning! This weekend, we nailed down exactly what will be written where, and we have some good news. With people writing much smaller letters than we had planned, it looks like we won't need nearly as many city blocks. So, all of our writing will be north of Main Street, and we we'll stay on Madison Street for the most part. Follow along on the map at left for the order of the books, in three easy steps: 1. Start at BB&T with Matthew and some of Mark, which takes you up Madison Street to Luke and then John at Highest Praise church. 2. Come back down Madison Street for Acts through 1 Corinthians to the depot where we'll write the books through 2 Thessalonians. 3. Back up Madison starting with 1 Timothy and back to BB&T with Revelation. This is your new blog post. Click here and start typing, or drag in elements from the top bar.
This Saturday, Charlotte Observer columnist and editor Michael Gordon wrote on the front page of the paper’s Faith & Values section that “If Google Earth grabs a satellite image [of Whiteville] on Easter morning, you’ll find a spiritual exclamation point in the heart of downtown.” In this clever opening to a thoughtful column about our upcoming Easter event, Walk With Jesus Sunrise Service and New Testament Writing, Gordon latched |
